Main House

2206 Rio Grande Street , Austin, TX 78705

Hardin House's "Main House" was built in 1966 by Stella Hardin's sons, Richard Davis Hardin and Carl C. Hardin. The three-story brick and wood siding structure is the only building at Hardin House which was designed specifically to be a dormitory. An ever growing demand for housing at the dormitory led to this addition. This demand continues, but despite the call for further expansions, it is unlikely the dormitory will further expand its size, and thereby risk losing its charm and exclusivity. Because many of the common facilities are located in Main, and it is the largest of all six buildings, the name Main House was coined.
